அ-row (க ங ச …)
Tap any tile to hear the compound letter.
The அ-row compound letters — uyirmey (உயிர்மெய்) — are formed by joining each of the 18 pure consonants with the vowel அ. The result: 18 single glyphs that each carry one consonant and one vowel sound. The அ-row is special — the bare consonant form already carries the inherent a sound, so no vowel sign is added.
How they’re formed
க் + அ = க (ka) · ங் + அ = ங (ṅa) · ச் + அ = ச (ca)
… and so on for all 18 consonants. The vowel sign (none) attaches to every consonant in the same way.
