Internal Organs

Tap any tile to hear the Tamil word spoken.

These five internal-body words come up whenever health is the topic — whether a casual “இதயம் வலிக்கிறது” (“my heart aches”, figurative or literal), a hospital visit, or a biology lesson. Two more — சிறுநீரகம் (kidney) and கல்லீரல் (liver) — round out the standard set; they’re introduced later when the medical-conversation lesson is added.

Word roots

நுரையீரல் (lungs) is literally “foam-organ” — நுரை (foam) + ஈரல் (organ / liver-like). மூளை (brain) shares a root with மூழ்கு (to be immersed). எலும்பு covers both bone and the broader skeletal frame, and இரத்தம் is the Sanskrit-origin word for blood — the older Tamil குருதி survives in poetry.
